Exposed at Federal Wartime Housing Program: “My father died from mesothelioma. He spent his life's work in the construction industry, his first known exposure to asbestos during WWII while working for a federal wartime housing program.” - Calvin R, Battleground, WA
Exposed While Serving on USS Boxer: “Exposed while assigned to the USS Boxer in 1959 for deployment to Guantanamo Bay Cuba. I was on board for approx 4 months aboard exposed to asbestos pipes and a/c systems on board, witnessed seeing many heat & a/c piping enclosed with asbestos covering. - Richard V, Lakeview, NY
Exposed using Raybestos Brand Brake Shoes: “Exposed while using Raybestos brand brake shoes. In the mid seventies I worked at a brake/alignment shop. Exposed at Bethlehem Steel Corp: “Exposed at Bethlehem Steel Corp from 1974 until 1982. I sometimes worked in rooms where the walls were made out of pure asbestos 2 inched thick and it would be peeling and flaking with fans blowing it around. Exposed aboard the USS J P Kennedy: “I spent 6 months aboard the USS J P Kennedy, DD850 during at Brooklyn Naval Shipyard and I retired from the Farmington Fire Department, in Farmington, New Mexico. Dexter L, Trenton, FL
Exposed at Cramp Shipyard, Philadelphia, PA: “Exposed while I was assigned at Cramp Shipyard, Philadelphia, PA, from Sept. 6, 1943 to Dec. 28, 1943. I was assigned to the U.S.S. Miami. One of my duties was to install the lagging (insulation) on the pipes in the fire and engine rooms. This consisted of mixing dry asbestos with water and packing it around the pipes, then wrapping it with fabric to hold it in place.” - Edwin M, Plant City, FL
Exposed at Ray Boyd Company: “My dad had asbestos cancer when he was working at Ray Boyd CO back from 1966-1986 . He has past away of cancer as of 11/28/03. Heard from a friend that work with my dad that his dad died as well from the cancer. He said that there was someone out there that could help out.’ - Kenny H, Princeton, TX
Exposed at Russell Corporation: “Exposed at Russell Corporation in Alexander City, AL in 1974 and when the testing program became available, it had not been 30 years and they would not allow me to be tested. Some of my co-workers that worked in the knitting mill with me have been diagnosed with it. My father took the test four years ago and was diagnosed with it and we all lived there with him and I have a sister and a brother that grew up there too.” - Deborah B, Rockford, AL
Exposed at Verizon Co: Worked for Verizon co for 34 yeas in an office building which had signs posted, ‘This is not an Asbestos Free Building’. Retired from Verizon and moved in May 2004. A routine X-ray showed a spot on my lung which was cancerous. Was operated on in February 2005. The lower half of my lung was removed and hopefully they got all the cancer. My Oncologist said this could definitely be caused by Asbestos working all those years in an Asbestos environment and I never smoked in my entire life.” - Anita C, The Villages, Florida
